Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions fall slightly as progress slows
Scotland’s planet-warming emissions have reduced but progress has continued to slow, new figures show. The amount of greenhouse gases produced by the country in 2024 fell by 1% compared to the previous year.
It is almost half of the reduction seen in 2023, when emissions fell by 2%.
Climate Action Secretary Gillian Martin said that while progress was being made, work to bring down emissions “must accelerate”. Full story >

Four days of extreme rain killed 7% of world’s rarest orangutans, study says
Four days of extreme rain and landslides in the Indonesian island of Sumatra have pushed the world’s most endangered great apes even closer to extinction, says a study.
Research suggests that 58 of less than 800 critically endangered Tapanuli orangutans, or around 7% of the total species, were killed as a result of the extreme weather event last November. Full story >
