Clean power takes centre stage at The Bottle Yard Studios
This week, NXTGENbps attended The Bottle Yard Studios (Bristol) for a Clean Power Pilot Open Day, where attendees could see battery systems being used to support lower-impact film and TV production. The West of England Clean Power Pilot is designed to power festivals, cultural events and screen productions across the region with 100% renewable electricity, helping to reduce pollution, improve air quality and show how clean temporary power can work at scale. UK faces “unprecedented” climate change
Sky News reported on the Met Office’s latest State of the UK Climate report, which says the UK is experiencing “historic and unprecedented change” to its climate. With 2025 confirmed as the warmest year on record and three heatwaves already recorded this summer, the story is a clear reminder that extreme temperatures are no longer a distant concern, but part of the conditions the UK now needs to prepare for. Data centres account for 23% of Ireland’s electricity use
The Register reported that data centres now account for 23% of Ireland’s metered electricity consumption, following a further 10% increase in electricity use during 2025. As demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow, the figures raise important questions about energy use, grid pressure and how countries balance technology growth with climate and sustainability goals. Bat focus: Bechstein’s bat
The NXTGENbps Bat was named with real bats in mind: quiet, low-impact and designed to work without unnecessary disruption. This week’s bat focus is Bechstein’s bat, one of the UK’s rarest bat species. Its decline has been closely linked to the loss of ancient woodland, making it a clear reminder of how habitat loss affects even the species many of us rarely see.
